Art Lessons at Maplewood Studio
Why choose Maplewood Studio?
-
MWS keeps group classes small (under six students) so everyone gets the attention they need to realize their creative goals.
-
Caitlin has taken WHMIS courses, and a studio safety webinar, and is diligent about safety knowledge and precautions in the studio.
Providing a safe space for students is especially important to Caitlin as someone with a disability (ADHD) who has experienced first-hand what a difference an accommodating space can make to facilitate a healthy learning environment.
This is why Maplewood Studio strives to provide a safe space for students to completely be themselves. It is a fully inclusive learning environment, where students are encouraged to practice positive self-talk and only constructive criticism is welcome. It is a 100% judgment-free zone, allowing students the comfort they need to experiment and explore their creative practices.
-
Caitlin has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Mount Allison University) and is constantly researching, and attending artist workshops and webinars to improve her creative knowledge. She is a practicing artist who has been part of multiple art exhibitions and is active in the local arts community. Caitlin is perpetually learning, which in turn means there will always be new ideas and techniques to integrate into classes.

MWS Policies
-
Students are expected to commit to classes for the duration of the semester. MWS follows the same timeline as local public schools, closing for winter break, March break, and the summer months.
Attendance is required for every class. If a student will not be able to come to class for any reason, please contact Caitlin as early as possible so she can adjust her lesson plan for the day. Please read about our cancellation policy below. -
If a student is unable to attend class for any reason, they are invited to reschedule for another day of the same week if possible. Otherwise, they will be charged in full for the class.
Students who have missed classes will be invited to schedule a make-up class. Make-up classes will be scheduled on a monthly basis, usually falling on Fridays. -
Payment must be made by or before the beginning of classes and can be made via cash or e-transfer.
You may pay by semester in full or via monthly payments, or you can pay through our punch card program.
-
Parents are asked to inform the teacher in advance if someone else will be picking their child up.
Students may arrive up to 10 minutes early but must wait until previous students are finished to enter the classroom.
Please note: classes will begin and end at the same time, regardless of whether a parent drops their child off early or picks them up late. Parents who will be more than five minutes late must notify the teacher. Parents who are 15 minutes late or more will be charged for extra class time. -
Prospective students are welcome to try up to three private lessons before committing to a full semester at Maplewood Studio, provided we have schedule availability. In fairness to students who have already committed to class, joining a group will not be possible unless the prospective student decides to enter our regular lesson programming.
-
Students taking private lessons are welcome to bring a friend to class for a day if they give advance notice to their teacher. The cost difference of having a second student with them must be paid in full by or before the start of class.
Students in semi-private or group lessons may bring a friend to class with permission from their teacher. If the class is working on a group project, the student will be asked to bring their friend at a later date.
In fairness to the other students in the class who have committed to a full semester, visiting students will be charged a higher fee and may only attend a maximum of two classes. If they enjoy the classes, the visiting student will be welcome to join the group for the duration of the semester. -
There is zero tolerance for bullying at Maplewood Studio.

Art Classes at Maplewood Studio
Are you ready to bring more creativity into you or your child’s life?
Art making is known to reduce stress and improve self worth, but we’ve all experienced the frustration of not being able to make an image look the way we want it to. That’s where art lessons come in.
Lessons focus on teaching the elements of art: factors such as line, tone and texture that help create successful images. Instead of focusing on a specific medium, Maplewood Studio encourages students to experiment with different mediums. This allows further exploration of each developing artist’s practice than a standard drawing or painting lesson offers, encouraging each student to develop the tools they need to make each image into exactly what they want it to be.
Watch your child’s confidence grow as they develop their creative skills and build friendships with other budding artists in their class. Witness the benefits of art class, from honed motor skills to improved social development, extend beyond making art and into other aspects of everyday life.
These changes aren’t limited to young students; adults can glean the same benefits of art class! For creatives, art-making is a key component of self-care. Escape the daily grind and treat yourself by indulging your creativity with art lessons.
Maplewood Studio provides a fun, safe environment for students of all ages to get creative. What are you waiting for?! Sign up for art lessons today!

Looking to upgrade the creativity in your class? I’m part of the Artist in Residency School Program for New Brunswick’s Anglophone East District and would love to help you with that.
Teachers can find me via the Artist Registry to orchestrate a printmaking collaboration for their class, featuring my Woodzilla printmaking press. Whether it’s fundraising, t-shirt printing, a big group project, or simply learning how to edition a print, I am flexible to work with you to choose a printmaking project that best reflects your class’s goals and needs. See you in school!
Last winter, I did a printmaking project with a local grade 4 class.
We'd spent 10 weeks working together, making styrofoam relief prints for the students to use for fundraising. This class was amazing to work with and had the BEST teacher, and I had such a great time working with them.
They worked together to make me this thank you card, and it's the most wholesome gift anyone's given me. A big thank you to this class, their teacher, the school, and the ArtsSmarts grant program for funding this project!
