Habitation
Habitation is an interactive installation originally shown at Haven Music Hall as part of Third Shift Art Festival in Saint John, NB.
It was shown again in a group exhibition at the George Fry Gallery in Fredericton, NB, Across the Threshold: a celebration of Connexion ARC’s 40th anniversary.
Habitation invites attendees to consider the ecological impacts of housing developments amidst the need for human habitation. This interactive installation encourages the viewer to remove and disassemble one of the hundreds of paper homes created by Nat and Caitlin to find hand-printed depictions of flora and fauna native to areas designated for housing development but will ultimately lessen the breadth of the installation. Alternatively, participants may choose to keep the home or leave the development untouched entirely. Either action initiates a quiet form of democracy which in turns inflates the schism of ecological degradation and habitation needs.
